Calling all Umpires! - Tuesday, March 30, 2021

Hello All,

It’s exciting to think that “traditional” baseball will happen this year.  One of the aspects of the game that we address at this point is umpiring and more specifically junior umpires!  Due to the current environment, I do not want to facilitate any hard feelings by scheduling any inside training class.  I have set up three nights in which I will do a ZOOM training.  The goal is to have as many potential junior umpires, coaches, parents, and other adults who wish to umpire attend to get an understanding of the Little League rules.  It may seem easy to the naked eye but there are some things that this class will help to point out.  The first two nights will be from 7-10 PM and will address the Rules and Positioning.  The third night will be for questions.  If I hold back questioning during the zoom call it will help us to get through the information.  The biggest part of the actual program will be the two Saturdays I will set aside to actually take everyone onto the field and go over positioning.  I hope to even do a “behind the plate” training.

Attached is all the training material I will address.    If interested, please contact me through email and I will forward these materials to you:  capecodjon@comcast.net

1.  Understanding the Little League Rules

2.  Base Umpire Position Sheet

3.  Rules for Parents

The training days are:

1.  April 14, 2021 7 PM - 10 PM (Wednesday)

2.  April 15, 2021 7 PM - 10 PM (Thursday)

3.  April 16, 2021 7 PM - to whenever necessary (Friday)

4.  Field Training 1 April 17, 2021 - 12 PM to 3 PM Barnstable LL Field (Lorusso) (Saturday)

5.  Field Training 2 April 24, 2021 - 12 PM to 3 PM Harwich LL Field (Centeneo Baldwin) (Saturday)

(* Please note, The zoom name is either under my name or Colleen Ormsby.  I do not have a Zoom account and I am using my significant other’s work zoom.)

Please contact me if there are any questions.  I chose these dates because they are very close to the beginning of the season and kids do better that way.  There will definitely be scheduling conflicts, there always are some, but let’s try to stick to these times.

Thank you,

2021 MAJORS TRYOUTS - Tuesday, March 9, 2021

         SIGN-UP for MAJORS TRYOUTS

Once you have registered to play this season, in order to secure your slot for tryouts, you need to schedule your child’s time slot!

1.  Click the link: https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?owner=20793716&appointmentType=21059304 .

2.  Select date, time, fill out information.

3.  Click “Complete Appointment” button at the bottom.

For those trying out for MAJORS this year, LAB Baseball has offered to assist us with the scheduling of tryouts. In order to adhere to COVID guidelines and maintain safety, tryouts will be held at LAB Baseball, Saturday (3/13) and Sunday (3/14). Each player trying out will choose one 20 minute time slot. During that time, the tryout will consist of skills based on hitting, throwing, and fielding.

It would be helpful, if possible, for you to schedule beginning Saturday with the earliest available slots. Additionally, it would be helpful to schedule your time slots with other players. If you need to schedule a time for Sunday, again, try to schedule beginning with the earliest available slots.

Please arrive 10 minutes early to check-in. There are 10 minutes in between each session, to allow for registration and the previous group to leave the facility. Because of the space limitations, once the athlete is checked-in, we ask that only players are allowed in the facility.

LAB Baseball Address:

105 Ferndoc St.

Unit C 1

Hyannis, MA 02601

If there are any questions, or if you need assistance signing up for tryouts, please contact Jonathan Stone (jonathandstone12@gmail.com).
